The Specialized Tarmac SL8 Expert Di2 is a road racing bike designed to deliver maximum speed on any route, thanks to a unique combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness, and ride quality. After eight generations and over twenty years of development, the Tarmac project reaches its pinnacle with a platform capable of setting new performance benchmarks in road cycling.
Real speed, on every route
Speed does not depend on a single factor, but on the perfect balance between aerodynamics, reduced weight, power transfer, and comfort. Through advanced simulations based on real-world data, the Specialized Ride Science Team has demonstrated that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest road bike on any terrain:
– 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat terrain
– 128 seconds gained on the Milan–Sanremo route
– 20 seconds less on the Tourmalet climb
Aerodynamic development was concentrated in the most influential areas, resulting in a bike that is even more efficient than the Venge. The front zone has been completely redesigned: the fork steerer tube set back relative to the head tube reduces air resistance, while the most slender and aerodynamic seatpost ever created by Specialized optimizes airflow around the rider's legs.
To achieve the perfect balance between aerodynamics and minimum weight, the SL8 project draws inspiration from the Aethos construction philosophy. The frame weighs just 685 grams, approximately 15% less than the Tarmac SL7. The shapes of the seat tube, top tube, and rear triangle have been optimized to maximize structural rigidity while minimizing superfluous material.
The stiffness-to-weight ratio is improved by 33% compared to the previous model. The Tarmac SL8 is extremely precise in corners and responsive under effort, yet at the same time more comfortable, filtering 6% more vibrations from the asphalt. It retains the proven geometry of the SL7 and offers clearance for tires up to 32 mm, increasing stability, grip, and comfort over long distances.
The Tarmac SL8 is developed according to the Rider First Engineered™ philosophy, which takes into account the needs of the individual rider, not gender. Every size guarantees the same performance and the same ride quality. This version is equipped with the 12-speed Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic groupset, tubeless-ready Roval C38 carbon wheels, and a Specialized cockpit with an integrated stem and Expert Shallow Drop aluminum handlebar.
